This shot really took me by surprise. I had gotten a couple of shots of lightning from this storm before this one, so I figured I had all the settings and aperture correct, then this bolt of lightning struck and illuminated the sky so brightly that it completely overexposed the shot. I thought I had lost it for good. It wasn't until I got home and just decided to try and adjust the exposure did it actually come out and I was stunned by the complexity of this strike.
Exposure time: 6.8 seconds Focal length: 18mm FNumber: 3.5 Adjusted white balance and exposure value in photoshop CommentsI love the purple sky! You caught an amazing moment

I would have personally preferred to see a more dynamic approach to the silhouetted trees at the bottom of the frame. They're doesn't seem to be enough of it showing to be worth including, and look a little straight, and flat. Great capture of the lightning though! -- Philip Stewart Scotland, UK >> That's an amazing capture!

I definitely agree with what you were saying about the trees. It almost gives it a two dimensional feel with the way I have it now, but there were a couple reasons I shot it this way. For one I had to shoot over a line of trees and didn't have too many other options. Also this was my first real attempt at shooting lightning, so now I know more of what to look for when I set up the shot
